    Buyer Beware, 25 Oct 2008

This game while it should be an extremely fun game is absolutely marred by some of the worst programing the psp has ever seen. If you own a psp slim, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME, it will freeze up on you. Simply put if you want to buy a game that does not work right then Driver '76 is for you, if you want to save your hard earned cash and put it towards another worthwhile psp game that you can actually play, the psp has a vast library of worthwhile titles.

    Dissapointingly fun., 18 Aug 2008

Bought this game without researching it and have halfly regreted it. love the 70's feel and music but has drawbacks such as:

-not many on foot mssions(there are 2 i think)

-most of side missions i only completed because i wanted to unlock more cars

-other reviews i have read say this game is a gta clone but it isnt because it has lame shooting and no interesting weapons just the basics(revolver,shotgun,submachine-gun,ak-47 and rocket launcher)

-take a ride(free roam) is stupid as there is nothing to do and driving is just repetitive.

-your only option is to speed down the roads at 90 or 100mph cos all the other cars go at 20 mph tops.

-cop chases are idiotic as they loose you after 30 seconds!

There are some good parts to the game such as:

-Big city to explore- new york is enormous but you cant do anything.

    -nuffin else

    Mixed feelings, 17 Sep 2007

This game definitely has a feel of the original 'Driver' about it, and certainly provides several hours of fun on the main missions, with some interesting side missions thrown in for added longevity. However, the streets of New York seem rather empty, and there's not really a great deal to do during the 'take a ride' option. Pretty good soundtrack though that certainly captures the era.

This game will get your PSP smokin', 16 Jul 2007

As good as GTA and its incarnations are I believe Driver got there first with the original Missions behind the wheel adult 3-D gameplay, that and Carmageddon with its endless pedestrian smooshing.

Whoever got there first Driver '76 for the PSP continues in the vein of adult themed gaming set in a seedy underworld, this time circa that glorious era of the mid 70s. The soundtrack here is great with reworkings of David Bowies, Blondie etc, the music really adds to the game especially if you turn it off once in awhile so you don't tire of the tunes. Graphics are what you'd expect for the PSP the urban locales of NYC are accurately (geographicaly even) portrayed. The missions are varied and interesting (some a little short) and the unlockables that can be traded between systems are a cool extra. The racing missions are another added bonus but they are tricky as you will get bounced all over the track without some modifications to your ride. I do experience a little freeze up when cruising the city occasionally but checking out the Manhattan skyline at dawn always makes me forgive this little engine.

As a prequel to Parallel Lines this might be the better game.

One of the more fun games on the PSP, 21 Jun 2007

At first this seems like it might be a Grand Theft Auto clone, since you can get out of your car, shoot people, steal cars, etc. The emphasis is about 90% on driving though, so it really is significantly different. Thank goodness the driving is handled so well. The game engine provides the 1970s action movie car chase feeling very well, and doing powerslides through back alleys with the cops on your tail is a blast. The graphics are decent and the loading times aren't bad, so if you like cheesy car chase movies, this is definitely the game to get.

    Driver on the go..Brilliant!, 16 May 2007

    First of all,

If you Google Driver 76 as of today 16th May looking for a review of this title you will be evry hard pushed to actually find one even though it's been out for a few days. I took the plunge and bought it without researching which is something I hate doing as I can't stand the disappointment if it's not very good, and i'm more than pleased to say that it has surpassed my expectations.

The Driver series has had a LOT of stick in the past ever since GTA came out and inevitabely comparisons were made. The original Driver for the PS1 was an instant hit and a game I really fell in love with, screaming through the streets being chased by the cops and timing you corner slide to perfection simply couldn't be beaten. Unfortunately as the series progressed the titles took a nose dive and we ended up with the pretty shoddy Drivr3 for XBOX and PS3 that had some shocking graphics and glitches a plenty.

So now we have a Driver title on the PSP and I can say that I get the feeling of the original in this game, they have gone back to basics with this one and the end result will put a smile on your face. Graphically it's outstanding with realistic car modelling and reflections on metal and there is the usual debris carnage when you slam into the back of a truck. I felt that at some stages their seemed to be a little slow down when things got busy but it certainly doesn't detract from the experience. The controls are tight right down to the flashy Thrill cam if you press the up cursor, this basically gives you a view of your car in slow motion so if you pull off some cool stunts you can see it all in slo mo. There is only one problem for me and the controls.. there isn't an in-car view.... this to me is inexcusable, i may be wrong but i certainly haven't found it yet.

You will get people saying it's not a patch on GTA but what they need to remember is they are actually COMPLETELY different games. GTA is your sandbox style exploration and mission based adventure and 76 is a DRIVING game. Buy it.

it has it all, 14 May 2007

at first it seemed like i had played this game before . grand theft auto. but it does have a nice twist. this game is a combination of grand theft auto , pursuit force and a live action comic book. the graphics are great and there is enough intense game play to hold your attention it also has a nice time travel twist as it takes you back to 1976 . one of the best games out there now. christian j nielsen
